Sen. Nikki Merritt Elected Vice Chair of Georgia Legislative Black Caucus

ATLANTA (January 19, 2023) | Sen. Nikki Merritt (D – Grayson) has been elected Vice Chair of The Georgia Legislative Black Caucus. The Georgia Legislative Black Caucus (GLBC) is a bicameral and bipartisan body that works to “protect the general welfare of Black people and other people of color and disadvantaged citizens of Georgia in matters of health and welfare, education, social and criminal justice, employment and economic empowerment.”

“I am truly honored to serve as Vice Chair of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus for 2023,” said Sen. Merritt. “For over 45 years, the GLBC has worked to achieve bipartisan initiatives in both the Georgia Senate and the Georgia House. I am eager work alongside my fellow executive board members and general members to continue the progress that has been made by those before me. Together we will work to achieve initiatives such as removing barriers to affordable healthcare, marking smart investments in education, continuing to reform the criminal justice system, protecting the workforce and strengthening the middle class.”


In addition to serving as Vice Chair of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus, Sen. Merritt will serve as a committee member of the Senate Committees on Children and Families, Government Oversight, Insurance and Labor, Natural Resources and the Environment and Urban Affairs.
