ATLANTA (January 20, 2022) | Last week, Sen. Clint Dixon (R – Gwinnett) was appointed to serve as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Education and Youth for the 2023 Legislative Session. The Senate Committee on Assignments, chaired by Lt. Governor Burt Jones, is responsible for assigning the Senate Body to committees.
“I am honored to have been selected by my Senate colleagues to serve as chairman of such a distinguished committee,” said Sen. Dixon. “With over 1.6 million students enrolled in nearly 2,200 Georgia public schools, prioritizing the needs of Georgia’s students and teachers is of the utmost importance. As chair of this committee, it will be a top priority of mine to do all that is necessary to insure that students, teachers and faculty are equipped with the necessary tools needed to provide our students with the highest level of education. I want to thank Lt. Governor Burt Jones and the Committee on Assignments for their diligent efforts and all of the hard work that went into this process of assigning committees. I am excited about the prospect of working with my Senate colleagues in this capacity and I look forward to what is to come.”
The Senate Committee on Education and Youth has general jurisdiction over K-12 education, certified employees of schools and school facilities in Georgia. In addition, the committee has the authority to review legislation related to childcare and Pre-K activities.
