13th Congressional District to Represent Georgia’s 9th Senate District Following 2024 Election

ATLANTA (Jan. 12, 2024) — In response to the redrawing of Georgia’s Congressional maps during the 2023 Special Session, Georgia’s 9th State Senate District will undergo a shift in Congressional representation. The district is currently represented by Sen. Nikki Merritt (D-Grayson). Currently aligned with the 7th Congressional District, represented by Congresswoman Lucy McBath, the 9th Senate District will no longer be associated with this district following the 2024 Election. Instead, the 9th Senate District will now follow under the jurisdiction of the 13th Congressional District, currently represented by Congressman David Scott.

Gwinnett Senate and House Legislative Delegations to Hold Joint Town Hall

ATLANTA (May 16, 2023) | On Thursday, May 18, 2023, the members of the Gwinnett Senate and House Legislative Delegations will hold a town hall at 6 p.m. at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center (GJAC). The town hall will consist of a Q&A with the members of the delegations as well as an in-depth look on the economic status of the state and Gwinnett County.

Georgia Senate Passes Insulin Cap Legislation for State Employees

ATLANTA (March 7, 2023) | Yesterday, Senate Bill 76, sponsored by Sen. Nikki Merritt (D – Grayson), passed in the Georgia Senate. SB 76 would require that a portion of the cost of insulin is covered for Georgia state employees under their state health insurance plan. With the passage of SB 76, insulin would cost $35.00 for a 30-day supply and $105 per 90-day supply.

Sen. Nikki Merritt Elected Vice Chair of Georgia Legislative Black Caucus

ATLANTA (January 19, 2023) | Sen. Nikki Merritt (D – Grayson) has been elected Vice Chair of The Georgia Legislative Black Caucus. The Georgia Legislative Black Caucus (GLBC) is a bicameral and bipartisan body that works to “protect the general welfare of Black people and other people of color and disadvantaged citizens of Georgia in matters of health and welfare, education, social and criminal justice, employment and economic empowerment.”
