ATLANTA (Jan. 12, 2024) — In response to the redrawing of Georgia’s Congressional maps during the 2023 Special Session, Georgia’s 9th State Senate District will undergo a shift in Congressional representation. The district is currently represented by Sen. Nikki Merritt (D-Grayson). Currently aligned with the 7th Congressional District, represented by Congresswoman Lucy McBath, the 9th Senate District will no longer be associated with this district following the 2024 Election. Instead, the 9th Senate District will now follow under the jurisdiction of the 13th Congressional District, currently represented by Congressman David Scott.
Sen. Merritt commented on the matter, stating, “I am honored to serve the constituents of Georgia’s 9th State Senate District, and with the recent redrawing of our Congressional Maps during the 2023 Special Session, I recognize the significant impact on our representation. As we quickly approach Election Day, it is important to inform our community that our district, currently aligned with the 7th Congressional District, will undergo a transition. After this election, the 9th Senate District will no longer be associated with the 7th Congressional District, but will align with the 13th Congressional District. Despite these changes, rest assured that I will continue to serve our community and strive to ensure effective representation for the people of Georgia.”
No changes have currently been made to Georgia’s 9th State Senate District.
