ATLANTA (April 7, 2022) | Last week, Sen. Sonya Halpern (D – Atlanta) stood beside Sen. Jason Anavitarte (R – Dallas) and Sen. Tyler Harper (R – Ocilla) to present the final exhibit for a collaborative art project, “I Am Georgia.” The black and white portfolio is composed of tiny selfies of high school seniors from a total of 107 public high schools throughout the state of Georgia. The final image, which is temporarily displayed in the rotunda of the Capitol, is of the Georgia state quarter.

This annual day of service brings together hundreds of student volunteers from Nashville-area colleges and universities to continue the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

ATLANTA (March 30, 2022) | Sen. Michael Rhett (D – Marietta) sponsored Senate Bill 354 which would require that property owners whose property is located in an area proposed for annexation must be notified by the local municipal authority. SB 354 passed through the Senate this month and its language was included in House Bill 1461, which addresses other measures related to annexation.

Michael Rhett (D – Marietta) will discuss Senate Bill 87, legislation he sponsored, known as the “Jack Hill Veterans Act,” on the Georgia Public Broadcasting’s (GPB) Lawmakers show at 7:30 p.m. SB 87 passed unanimously through both the House and Senate and has been sent to the Governor for consideration.

ATLANTA (March 20, 2022) | Sen. Sonya Halpern (D – Atlanta), along with Gov. Brian Kemp, hosted the second Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) Heritage Day celebration at the Georgia State Capitol on Wednesday, March 16th. Recognized at the Capitol were Albany State University, Clark Atlanta University, Fort Valley State University, the Interdenominational Theological Seminary, Morehouse School of Medicine, Morehouse College, Morris Brown College, Payne College, Savannah State University, and Spelman College.
