ATLANTA (April 7, 2022) | Last week, Sen. Sonya Halpern (D – Atlanta) stood beside Sen. Jason Anavitarte (R – Dallas) and Sen. Tyler Harper (R – Ocilla) to present the final exhibit for a collaborative art project, “I Am Georgia.” The black and white portfolio is composed of tiny selfies of high school seniors from a total of 107 public high schools throughout the state of Georgia. The final image, which is temporarily displayed in the rotunda of the Capitol, is of the Georgia state quarter.
“I am so pleased that this initiative gave high school seniors throughout different parts of Georgia the opportunity to contribute to a collage that celebrates the collective work they put into so many school years to get to where they are today, so close to graduating and taking on life’s next journey,” said Sen. Halpern. “Our high school seniors deserve to feel celebrated and know that their long hours of studying and commitment to learning does not go unnoticed. Today’s high school seniors are tomorrow’s leaders of the state, and I am honored to present this portfolio today and encourage all the students who have a selfie included contributed to come visit our state Capitol and view the exhibit.”
Sen. Halpern extends her gratitude to Atlanta Public School (APS) student Jaydon and APS Fine & Performing Art Coordinator Sara Womack, who both helped to produce the final piece.
