ATLANTA (Dec. 14, 2023) — Vice Chair of the Senate Democratic Caucus, Senator Sonya Halpern (D-Atlanta), has been named the State Legislator of the Year by the Georgia Association of Black County Officials (GABCO). The award, presented on Sunday, December 10, recognizes Sen. Halpern’s outstanding commitment to policies that uplift the marginalized, empower the underserved, and create a more inclusive society for all.

Senators Jason Anavitarte and Sonya Halpern Serve as Panelists for Solar Forum at Georgia Tech Kendeda Building

ATLANTA (July 17, 2023) | Last week, Senators Jason Anavitarte (R – Dallas) and Sonya Halpern (D – Atlanta) took part in two panels at “The State of Solar in Georgia: A Policy & Economic Forum,” hosted at the Kendeda Building on the campus of Georgia Tech. The Georgia Solar Energy Industries Association and Conservatives for Clean Energy Georgia sponsored the event.

Senator Sonya Halpern Represents Georgia on Transnational Diplomatic Trip

ATLANTA (December 9, 2022) | Georgia State Senator Sonya Halpern (D – Atlanta) is currently on a trip to Israel with a delegation of fourteen elected officials and civic leaders from across the nation. The week-long trip is co-sponsored by the American-Israel Friendship League (AIFL) and the State of Israel’s Minister of Foreign Affairs. Sen. Halpern will visit Tel Aviv and Metula before visiting holy sites in Jerusalem and the Yad Vashem, Israel’s official Holocaust memorial. The group will also visit the Knesset (the Israeli Parliament) in addition to participating in meetings and briefings with officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Senator Sonya Halpern Presents Statewide Initiative “I Am Georgia” Art Project of High School Seniors

ATLANTA (April 7, 2022) | Last week, Sen. Sonya Halpern (D – Atlanta) stood beside Sen. Jason Anavitarte (R – Dallas) and Sen. Tyler Harper (R – Ocilla) to present the final exhibit for a collaborative art project, “I Am Georgia.” The black and white portfolio is composed of tiny selfies of high school seniors from a total of 107 public high schools throughout the state of Georgia. The final image, which is temporarily displayed in the rotunda of the Capitol, is of the Georgia state quarter.
