ATLANTA (December 9, 2022) | Georgia State Senator Sonya Halpern (D – Atlanta) is currently on a trip to Israel with a delegation of fourteen elected officials and civic leaders from across the nation. The week-long trip is co-sponsored by the American-Israel Friendship League (AIFL) and the State of Israel’s Minister of Foreign Affairs. Sen. Halpern will visit Tel Aviv and Metula before visiting holy sites in Jerusalem and the Yad Vashem, Israel’s official Holocaust memorial. The group will also visit the Knesset (the Israeli Parliament) in addition to participating in meetings and briefings with officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“As a member of the Georgia Senate, I am honored to join leaders from around our country on my first of many incredible trips to the Holy Land,” said Sen. Halpern. “America has no stronger ally than Israel in the Middle East and I am excited to play my part in continuing our state’s special two-way bond with our friend and partner.”
Each year, the American-Israel Friendship League sends leadership delegations to Israel to foster stronger relationships between the U.S. and Israel. The nonprofit was founded in 1971 in order to increase “Americans’ understanding of the contemporary Israel story.”
