Sen. Michael Rhett Sponsors Legislation to Require Notice of Annexation to Property Owners

ATLANTA (March 30, 2022) | Sen. Michael Rhett (D – Marietta) sponsored Senate Bill 354 which would require that property owners whose property is located in an area proposed for annexation must be notified by the local municipal authority. SB 354 passed through the Senate this month and its language was included in House Bill 1461, which addresses other measures related to annexation.

“Property owners deserve the right to know ahead of time if their property may be annexed,” said Sen. Rhett. “I sponsored Senate Bill 354 with the hopes of creating legislation geared towards informing others of potential changes, as where one’s home or property is located can affect a person’s decision to have moved there in the first place. I was pleased to see my bill included in part of a larger House Bill to outline annexation notice rights and I hope House Bill 1461 receives the Governor’s signature soon.”
