Sen. Sally Harrell and Advocates to Hold Press Conference to Get the Work Done for the IDD Community

ATLANTA (Feb. 6, 2024) — Tomorrow, Wednesday, Feb. 7, Sen. Sally Harrell (D-Atlanta) will hold a press conference with self-advocates, family members and service providers for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to urge the Georgia General Assembly to get the work done to fully support Georgians with IDD.

EVENT DETAILS:

  • Date: Wednesday, February 7, 2024
  • Time: 9:00 a.m.
  • Location: Georgia State Capitol, South Steps, 206 Washington St., Atlanta, GA 30334
  • The event is open to the public.

ABOUT THE MEETING:

While there’s been movement and momentum in recent years to support adults with IDD to live and thrive in their communities, Georgia still lags most states in funding for IDD services and the 2011 Department of Justice Settlement Agreement, originally intended to be a 5-year effort to empty institutions and create an adequate network of community services and supports for adults with IDD, has now lingered for 12 years.

The IDD Community is coming together to outline the work still needed to be done to fully support adults with IDD.

MEDIA OPPORTUNITIES:

We kindly request members of the media to confirm their attendance in advance by contacting Sydney Horwitz at the Senate Press Office (Sydney.Horwitz@senate.ga.gov).
