Sen. Greg Dolezal Appointed to Senate Study Committees on Certificate of Need Reform and Truck Driver Shortages

ATLANTA (June 1, 2023) | Chairman of the Senate Committee on Transportation, Senator Greg Dolezal (R – Cumming), was appointed to serve as Chairman of the Senate Study Committee on Certificate of Need (CON) Reform and as a member of the Senate Study Committee on Truck Driver Shortages by Lt. Governor Burt Jones.

“During the 2023 Legislative Session, the Georgia Senate decided to further analyze the efficacy of CON requirements and the threat of truck driver shortages within our state,” said Sen. Dolezal. “We have heard time and time again from our constituents that CON can hinder access to healthcare in our rural communities. As Chairman of the Senate Study Committee on CON Reform, I intend to gather from public and expert testimony as we explore innovative ways to reform this outdated system. Additionally, the Senate Committee on Transportation, which I chair, had the opportunity to take a closer look at some of the challenges our logistics sector is facing as we worked on House Bill 189. I am eager to gain a better understanding of how we can recruit and train the truck drivers necessary to remedy current supply chain issues and keep Georgia’s economy strong. Both of these committees will have the opportunity to produce comprehensive legislative solutions, which will be considered during the 2024 Legislative Session. I am thankful to Lt. Governor Burt Jones for his leadership and for placing his trust in me as I work on these issues with my colleagues.”

The Senate Study Committee on CON Reform was established through the passage of Senate Resolution 279, sponsored by Chairman Dolezal, during the 2023 Georgia Legislative Session. The Senate Study Committee on Truck Driver Shortages was established through the passage of Senate Resolution 155, sponsored by the Chairman of the Study Committee, Senator Jason Anavitarte (R – Dallas), during the 2023 Georgia Legislative Session. The committees will be tasked with holding meetings across the state, with dates and locations to be announced at a later time.
