Governor Kemp Signs “Georgia Promise Scholarship Act” into Law

ATLANTA – On Tuesday, April 23, 2024, Governor Brian P. Kemp signed Senate Bill 233, the “Georgia Promise Scholarship Act,” into law. Sponsored by Chairman of the Senate Committee on Transportation Sen. Greg Dolezal (R–Cumming), the “Georgia Promise Scholarship Act” creates the Georgia Education Savings Authority and provides its composition, functions, duties and powers in administering the Promise Scholarship Program. The bill also provides for the establishment of promise scholarship accounts to be funded by the state in the amount of $6,500.00 for the first school year and through an adjusted amount each subsequent school year.

Sen. Greg Dolezal and Rep. Todd Jones Celebrate Final Passage of “Georgia Promise Scholarship Act”

ATLANTA – Senator Greg Dolezal (R-Cumming), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Transportation, and State Representative Todd Jones (R-South Forsyth), Chairman of the House Committee on Technology and Infrastructure Innovation, celebrate the final passage of Senate Bill 233, the “Georgia Promise Scholarship Act,” sponsored by Sen. Greg Dolezal (R–Cumming). This measure now awaits signature by Governor Brian P. Kemp.

Senate Passes “Georgia Development Impact Fee Act”

ATLANTA (March 4, 2024) – Last week, the Georgia State Senate approved Senate Bill 208 and Senate Resolution 189, both measures sponsored by Georgia Senate Transportation Chairman and Chief Deputy Whip Sen. Greg Dolezal (R-Cumming). SB 208 introduces development impact fees for education for fast growing counties such as Forsyth, while SR 189 would place a ballot measure on the November ballot, allowing voters to change the Constitution to empower local boards of education to impose, levy, and collect these fees, utilizing the proceeds to contribute to the cost of additional educational facilities.

Senate Passes “Small Business Protection Act of 2024”

ATLANTA (Feb. 26, 2024) – Today the Georgia Senate passed Senate Bill 429, sponsored by Chairman of the Senate Committee on Transportation and Chief Deputy Whip Sen. Greg Dolezal (R–Cumming). This measure, the “Small Business Protection Act of 2024,” would allow for the Governor, President of the Senate, or any member of the Georgia General Assembly to request that the Office of Planning and Budget and the Department of Audits and Accounts prepare a small business impact analysis on any bill introduced during a legislative session. This analysis would estimate the economic costs and benefits that such bill may have on small businesses in the state.
