Sen. Emanuel Jones Honors Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. with Updated Capitol Display

ATLANTA (January 22, 2025)  On Friday, January 17, Sen. Emanuel Jones (D–Decatur) unveiled updates to the Martin Luther King, Jr. display on the fourth floor of the Georgia State Capitol. The unveiling, which included new dedication plates, occurred after the 41st annual tribute to Dr. King hosted by the Martin Luther King, Jr. Advisory Council.

“It was an honor to commemorate Dr. King’s legacy alongside such distinguished guests at the Capitol,” said Sen. Jones, sponsor of the legislation and a founding member of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Advisory Council. “Events like this serve as a powerful reminder that there is still much work to be done to ensure progress continues. Dr. King’s unwavering commitment to equality, inclusivity and unity continues to inspire us all. Let us use this dedication as an opportunity to reignite our collective dedication to these ideals and strive toward a more just and united society.”

Several former members of the Advisory Council, including Rita Jackson Samuels and Tony Collins, attended the tribute and unveiling. They were joined by Farris Christine Watkins, Dr. King’s grandniece.
