Senate Impact of Social Media and Artificial Intelligence on Children and Platform Privacy Protection Study Committee to Hold Second Hearing

ATLANTA (September 10, 2025)—On Wednesday, September 17, the Senate Impact of Social Media and Artificial Intelligence on Children and Platform Privacy Protection Study Committee, co-chaired by Sen. Sally Harrell (D–Atlanta) and Sen. Shawn Still (R–Johns Creek), will hold its second hearing.

ABOUT THE MEETING:
The bipartisan Senate Impact of Social Media and Artificial Intelligence on Children and Platform Privacy Protection Study Committee, created through Senate Resolution 431, will evaluate the impact of online platforms (i.e., social media, gaming, AI, etc.) on children. The study committee will partner with parents, policy experts, representatives from state agencies and private organizations to determine how online protections may be improved and strengthened to ensure safer online experiences.

Having examined how online platforms can be harmful to children and youth in the first meeting, this second meeting will begin looking at specific state policies that can result in safe online experiences for minors. You can watch the replay of the Study Committee’s first meeting here.

Elena Parent (D–Atlanta) filed Senate Bill 224, “Donna’s Law,” to allow Georgia citizens at risk for suicidal ideations to place themselves on the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) Firearms Checks List to protect themselves.

Senate Minority Leader Harold Jones II and Sen. Sally Harrell to Hold Press Conference on Protecting Reproductive Freedom

ATLANTA (February 4, 2025) — On Wednesday, February 5, at 2:00 p.m., Senate Minority Leader Harold Jones II (D–Augusta) and Sen. Sally Harrell (D–Atlanta) will hold a press conference on Senate Resolution 84. SR 84 proposes a constitutional amendment that would aim to protect access to abortion. It also aims to protect both those who seek an abortion and those who assist a pregnant individual in accessing an abortion from prosecution.

Sen. Sally Harrell Announces $250,000 Grant to Clubhouse Atlanta

ATLANTA (May 30, 2024) – Today, Sen. Sally Harrell (D–Atlanta) announced that she secured a $250,000 grant for Clubhouse Atlanta at their open house event for supporters and members. Clubhouse Atlanta provides an evidence-based supportive program that helps individuals living with mental illness recover, come to terms with their illness, find social connections and build self-confidence to lead productive lives.
