Georgia General Assembly Honors the Life of Sergeant Rose Lubin

ATLANTA (Dec. 6, 2023) — Yesterday, the Georgia Senate honored the life and memory of Sergeant Rose Lubin with the passage of Senate Resolution 11EX, sponsored by Senator Sally Harrell (D-Atlanta). Sergeant Rose Lubin, an Israeli soldier from Dunwoody, GA, lost her life in the line of duty in a terrorist attack in Jerusalem on Nov. 6, 2023.

“It’s clear from listening to stories about her that she was a passionate, empathic young woman — a free-spirit who didn’t hesitate to do her own thing,” said Sen. Harrell in her remarks about SR 11EX. “From a very young age, Rose was determined to serve and protect the people of Israel. That’s exactly what she was doing when she protected her host Kibbutz from Hamas terrorists on October 7, and again when she was attacked while on duty guarding the Old City in Jerusalem.”

Sergeant Lubin was off-duty when the deadly Hamas attack in Israel began on October 6th. She grabbed her weapon and bravely defended the residents of her home Kibbutz against Hamas invaders and helped those injured to safety. Just weeks later, she was killed in a stabbing attack that also injured a fellow soldier.

Rose’s family — father David Rubin, mother Robin Lubin, stepmother Stephanie Lubin, sister Lily Rubin and Grandfather Nathan Lubin were in attendance and recognized from the Senate floor during the reading and passage of SR 11EX. The family was similarly recognized by Georgia House Representatives Long Tran (D-Dunwoody), Esther Panitch (D-Sandy Springs) and Shea Roberts (D-Atlanta) in a Morning Order.

“It’s tragic to lose someone so young from our district that shined so much light and joy in her community,” said Rep. Tran. “She lived her life to the fullest protecting what she loves. We hope her sacrifice brings us closer to peace.”

“We are in debt to Rose for making the ultimate sacrifice to protect Israel and our democratic values. It’s a debt we can never repay. But we can honor her memory and that’s what we did today,” said Rep. Panitch, the only Jewish member currently serving in the Georgia House of Representatives.
