Senator Jason Anavitarte Introduces School Safety Legislation Known as Alyssa’s Law

ATLANTA (January 31, 2023) | Yesterday, State Senator Jason Anavitarte (R-Dallas) introduced new legislation to increase school safety and decrease the opportunity for domestic terrorists to falsely report school shooting incidents. Sen. Anavitarte’s legislation, known as Alyssa’s Law, after Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting victim Alyssa Alhadeff, directs that public elementary & secondary school buildings be equipped with silent panic alarms that notify law enforcement.

Senator Blake Tillery Encourages Students to Apply for the Senate Page Program

ATLANTA (January 27, 2023) | Sen. Blake Tillery (R – Vidalia) is calling for students age 12 and older to apply for the Senate Page Program for the 2023 Legislative Session. The Senate Page Program offers an opportunity for students to visit the State Capitol to observe and participate in the legislative process. Senate pages serve the Senators by delivering important information and message to them in the Senate Chamber during the legislative session day.

Senator Sonya Halpern Represents Georgia on Transnational Diplomatic Trip

ATLANTA (December 9, 2022) | Georgia State Senator Sonya Halpern (D – Atlanta) is currently on a trip to Israel with a delegation of fourteen elected officials and civic leaders from across the nation. The week-long trip is co-sponsored by the American-Israel Friendship League (AIFL) and the State of Israel’s Minister of Foreign Affairs. Sen. Halpern will visit Tel Aviv and Metula before visiting holy sites in Jerusalem and the Yad Vashem, Israel’s official Holocaust memorial. The group will also visit the Knesset (the Israeli Parliament) in addition to participating in meetings and briefings with officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Sen. Harold Jones Re-Elected as Democratic Caucus Whip

ATLANTA (November 29, 2022) | Yesterday, Sen. Harold Jones (D – Augusta) was re-elected by members of the Georgia Senate Democratic Caucus to serve as the Democratic Caucus Whip.

“I thank my colleagues for their support and confidence to re-elect me to serve as the Democratic Caucus Whip,” said Sen. Jones. “I look forward to passing legislation and continuing bipartisan efforts that will continue to push Georgia in a positive direction.”

This is Sen. Jones’ fourth session serving as the Democratic Caucus Whip, after previously serving as the Chief Deputy Whip. Sen. Jones was elected to serve District 22 in the Georgia Senate in 2014 and currently serves as the Secretary of the Senate Committee on Ethics, as well as a member of the Senate Committees on Judiciary, Public Safety, Rules, Economic Development and Tourism, and Reapportionment and Redistricting.
