Senator Kim Jackson to Sponsor Legislation Protecting Victims of Stalking

ATLANTA (February 3, 2021) | Sen. Kim Jackson (D – Stone Mountain) has recently introduced Senate Bill 75, a bipartisan piece of legislation intended to expand protections for identified victims of stalking.

“Promoting a safer Georgia, for every individual and community, is a legislative issue agreeable by all and I believe it is only fitting that my first bill as an elected official seeks to support that,” said Sen. Jackson. “The ability to live and walk, both freely and comfortably, is a right that should be afforded to all, but unfortunately is not the case for many Georgians. This is especially true for victims of stalking, whose experiences have oftentimes left them feeling increasingly vulnerable. I am proud to be able to sponsor bipartisan legislation that offers added security to these individuals and I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues to find ways we can bolster public safety in our state.”

Under current Georgia Code, a tenant may terminate a rental or lease agreement 30 days after submitting a written notice of termination, without penalty, if a civil family violence order or criminal family violence order has been issued. SB 75 would expand these provisions to grant similar abilities to a documented victim of stalking.
