Senator Kim Jackson Appointed to the Senate Study Committee on Foster Care and Adoption

ATLANTA (May 16, 2023) | On Wednesday, May 10, Senator Kim Jackson (D – Stone Mountain) was appointed to serve on the 2023 Senate Study Committee on Foster Care and Adoption by Lt. Governor Burt Jones.

“It is an honor to be chosen for the opportunity to further serve the people of Georgia,” said Sen. Jackson. “The Senate passed bipartisan legislation during the 2023 Session that helped address issues in our foster care system. Additionally, this committee will dive deeper into the multitude of problems affecting thousands of children and families in our foster care system. The study committee will discuss the lack of funding, safety and ways to implement much-needed reform. The state has an obligation to ensure that all children in foster care have access to quality care and that all families interested in adopting have the resources they need to make a difference in the lives of children. I look forward to working with Chairwoman Senator Kay Kirkpatrick (R – Marietta), my Senate colleagues and additional committee members who will offer unique perspectives on the topic of foster care and adoption.”

The Senate Study Committee on Foster Care and Adoption was established pursuant to the passage of Senate Resolution 282 during the 2023 Georgia Legislative Session. The committee is comprised of eight additional members who will be tasked with holding meetings around the state. The dates and locations of the meetings will be announced at a later time.
