Senate Adopts Bill to Add Superior Court Judge to Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit

ATLANTA (March 9, 2021) | Yesterday, Senate Bill 162, sponsored by Sen. Brandon Beach (R – Alpharetta), was adopted by the Senate by a vote of 52 to 0.

“The Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit has not had a new judge position created in many years, while the caseloads have dramatically increased,” said Sen. Beach. “The addition of a new judge would allow cases to be adjudicated more efficiently and reduce the backlog citizens searching for justice. I am grateful to see this bill move to the next step in the legislative process and look forward to seeing it become law.”

Senate Bill 162 would increase the number of superior court judges serving on the Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit from three to four. The bill would also establish how this judge would be selected and outline the length of their term.
