ATLANTA (March 8, 2021) | Last week, Governor Brian Kemp announced that Tri-CoGo will provide high-speed internet to 22,000 citizens in Middle Georgia. This new broadband service will cover eight counties, including Baldwin, Bibb, Jasper, Jones, Morgan and Putnam in Senate District 25.
“I want to commend everyone involved, Tri-CoGo, Governor Kemp, state and local leaders, our citizens and the entire Middle Georgia community on their work to bring this essential project and service to this region,” said Sen. Burt Jones (R – Jackson). “The creation of Tri-CoGo, along with the Central Georgia announcement early last month, is the first rollout of such a program. Both are a testament to the importance of our region to keeping Georgia the number one state in which to do business. By building the necessary broadband infrastructure, we are improving our business-friendly environment in Middle Georgia where businesses will want to move, expand, and start. Additionally, bringing high-speed access to our citizens and their families is critical as we adapt to new ways of working and learning. Lastly, enhancing access to a reliable and modern internet will be critical as we expand our use of telemedicine and access to health care outside of standard hospital and doctor visits. This is a great step forward for our region and state, and I look forward to working with all stakeholders to further expand high-speed internet access to all citizens and communities within our district.”
As notated in the release by Governor Brian Kemp, “this project will include a capital investment of more than $47 million by Tri-County EMC (TCEMC) to build a fiber network that will provide enhanced reliability and operational services for TCEMC electric customers while providing excess fiber capacity that will be leased to the cooperative’s broadband affiliate, Tri-CoGo, which will provide the broadband service, pending regulatory approval.”
By using a federal grant of approximately $1.1 million, Tri-CoGo will provide Gigabit service to two key areas: unserved locations in 24 census blocks and more than 22,000 accounts currently served by Tri-County EMC.
