Sen. Sally Harrell to Host Press Conference to Call on Legislators to Fully Fund Georgia’s NOW and COMP Waivers

ATLANTA (March 29, 2021) | Sen. Sally Harrell (D – Atlanta), along with the self-advocates, families and allies of Georgians with disabilities will be hosting a press conference to for call of state legislators to fully fund Georgia’s New Option Waiver (NOW) Program and Comprehensive (COMP) Waivers in five years.

WHAT:              Press conference to urge funding of NOW and COMP Waivers

WHO:               Philip Woody, Advocate and Father: Will welcome participants, tells his story as a father and advocate, what a Medicaid waiver would mean to his son, and explains why we are advocating for full funding in 5 years.

Callie Moore, Self-advocate, and her sister Brianna James: Will tell Callie’s story of being on the waiting list for a decade and the progress Callie has made in the years since receiving support from the Medicaid waiver. 


Don McLaughlin, Senior Minister, North Atlanta Church of Christ and Ally: Will speak to how supporting Georgians with Disabilities is moral issue for our state leaders.


Sen. Sally Harrell, Senate District 40: Will speak to her experience as a legislator who first learned about the NOW and COMP Medicaid waiting list when she served in the GA House when her children were babies. Now her babies are grown adults. She will explain her legislation to fully fund the NOW/COMP waivers in 5 years.
