ATLANTA (July 8, 2015) | Sen. Rick Jeffares (R- McDonough) has been selected by Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle to serve on the Senate Preservation of HOPE Scholarship Program Study Committee.
“The HOPE Scholarship and Georgia Pre-K programs have provided thousands of students with enhanced learning opportunities in Georgia for the past two decades,” said Sen. Jeffares. “I look forward to working with my colleagues over the next several months to explore supplemental sources of revenue to preserve and expand both programs for future generations of Georgians.”
“I’m proud to appoint Sen. Jeffares to the Senate Preservation of HOPE Scholarship Program Study Committee and look forward to thoroughly evaluating their findings,” said Lt.Gov. Cagle. “Sen. Jeffares has been a leader on these issues, and I’m thankful he’s lending his time and expertise to the important work this committee will perform.”
The Senate Preservation of HOPE Scholarship Program Study Committee was created by the passage of Senate Resolution 4 during the 2015 legislative session. The Committee was created in response to Senate Resolution 605, a measure that seeks to utilize the state taxation of casino gaming and pari-mutuel wagering on horse racing to supplement the funding for the HOPE Scholarship and Georgia Pre-K programs. The study committee will also work to study the social and economic issues pertaining to those activities. The committee will be composed of seven members of the Senate and must report its findings on or before December 1, 2015.
