Sen. Elena Parent Appointed as Chair of Senate Study Committee

ATLANTA (July 8, 2015)  |  Sen. Elena Parent (D – Atlanta) has been selected by Lt .Gov. Casey Cagle to serve as Chair of the Senate Annexation, Deannexation and Incorporation Study Committee.

“After seeing several cityhood bills go through different processes during the 2015 legislative session, it became apparent that we need to review the procedures for annexation, deannexation and incorporation to ensure the process is clear and in the best interest of the citizens,” said Sen. Parent. “I look forward to working with the relevant stakeholders and members of the committee over the next few months to provide a long-lasting solution that will benefit all involved.”

“I’m proud to appoint Sen. Parent to the Senate Annexation, Deannexation and Incorporation Study Committee and look forward to thoroughly evaluating their findings,” said Lt.Gov. Cagle. “Sen. Parent has been a leader on these issues, and I’m thankful she’s lending her time and expertise to the important work this committee will perform.”

The Annexation, Deannexation and Incorporation Study Committee was created by the passage of Senate Resolution 609 during the 2015 legislative session. As stated in the resolution, the committee shall be comprised of five members of the Senate. The Annexation, Deannexation and Incorporation Study Committee will review the current annexation, deannexation and incorporation laws and procedures and consider ways of addressing negative impacts and ensuring the process is clear, open, equitable and in the best interest of the citizens of Georgia. The committee must report its findings on or before December 1, 2015.
