Sen. Elena Parent, Reps. Mary Margaret Oliver, Omari Crawford and to Hold Legislative Town Hall

ATLANTA – State Senator Elena Parent (D-Atlanta) long with State Representatives Mary Margaret Oliver (D-Decatur) and Omari Crawford (D-Decatur) will host a legislative town hall to recap the 2024 legislative session and discuss election season issues on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, from 7-8 p.m. at Decatur City Hall.

Representative Mary Margaret Oliver represents the citizens of District 82, which includes portions of DeKalb County. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2002 and currently serves as the Secretary of the Public Health Committee. She also serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Human Resources and the Governmental Affairs, Judiciary, Juvenile Justice and the Technology and Infrastructure Innovation committees.

Representative Omari Crawford represents the citizens of District 84, which includes portions of DeKalb County. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2022 and currently serves on the Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight, Intragovernmental Coordination and Judiciary committees.

Senators Elena Parent and Sally Harrell to Hold Press Conference on Legislation to Establish Voluntary “No Sell” Firearms List

ATLANTA (March 12, 2024) — Tomorrow, Wednesday, March 13th, Democratic Caucus Chair Sen. Elena Parent (D–Atlanta) and Sen. Sally Harrell (D–Atlanta) will hold a press conference to discuss Senate Bill 522, also known as Donna’s Law. Senators Parent and Harrell will be joined by Chelsea Piatt from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and Dr. Peter Ash from Emory University’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. The press conference will follow a hearing on the measure in the Senate Committee on Public Safety.

Georgia Senators Seek to Guarantee Georgians’ Right to Contraception and In Vitro Fertility Treatment

ATLANTA (Feb. 28, 2024) – Sen. Elena Parent (D–Atlanta) is filing two bills related to address access to reproductive healthcare in Georgia: Senate Bill 564 ensure Georgians have access to contraception and Senate Bill 565 to ensure that access to in vitro fertility treatment is not compromised by the definition or status of a human embryo created outside a human uterus.

Senator Elena Parent to Hold Press Conference on Contraception and IVF Legislation

ATLANTA (Feb. 27, 2024) — Tomorrow, Wednesday, Feb. 28th, Democratic Caucus Chair Sen. Elena Parent (D–Atlanta) will hold a press conference to discuss two bills in which she is filing, Senate Bill 564, “The Right to Contraception Act” and Senate Bill 565, “The Right to IVF Act.”

Georgia Senators Seek to Create Voluntary “No Sell” Firearms List

ATLANTA (Feb. 22, 2024) – Sen. Elena Parent (D–Atlanta) and Sen. Sally Harrell (D–Atlanta) filed Senate Bill 522, also known as Donna’s Law, to allow Georgia citizens with suicidal ideations to place themselves on the FBI’s NICS Firearms Checks list to protect themselves. SB 522 is expected to be heard in the Senate Committee on Public Safety on Wednesday, Feb. 28th.
