ATLANTA (July 9, 2015) | Sen. Dean Burke (R – Bainbridge) has been selected by Lt .Gov. Casey Cagle to serve as Chair of the Consumer and Provider Protection Act Study Committee and as a member of the Georgia-Alabama Joint Study Committee and the Women’s Adequate Healthcare Study Committee.
“Over the next several months, my colleagues and I will begin examining several bills that required further evaluation from the 2015 Legislative Session,” said Sen. Burke. “I look forward to conducting an in-depth review of these important issues and gathering feedback from citizens throughout the state.”

Burke to the Senate Consumer and Provider Protection Act Study Committee, the Georgia-Alabama Joint Study Committee and the Senate Women’s Adequate Healthcare Study Committee and look forward to thoroughly evaluating their findings,” said Lt.Gov. Cagle. “Sen. Burke has been a leader on these issues, and I’m thankful he’s lending his time and expertise to the important work these committees will perform.”
The Consumer and Provider Protection Act Study Committee was created by the passage of Senate Resolution 561 during the 2015 legislative session. As stated in the resolution, the committee shall be comprised of four members of the Senate and six nonlegislative members. The Consumer and Provider Protection Act Study Committee will study the conditions, needs, issues and problems relating to current practices for the regulation of rental networks, revisions in unilateral contracts with health care providers and prevalence of incorrect data related to network adequacy throughout the state. The committee must report its findings on or before December 1, 2015.
The Georgia-Alabama Joint Study Committee was created by the passage of House Resolution 395 during the 2015 legislative session. The committee shall be composed of 10 members; five members of the Senate and five members of the House of Representatives. The Georgia-Alabama Joint Study Committee is responsible for fostering good will and promoting a cooperative working relationship with the state of Alabama. The committee must report its finding on or before December 1, 2016.
The Women’s Adequate Healthcare Study Committee was created by the passage of Senate Resolution 560 during the 2015 legislative session. As stated in the resolution, the committee shall be comprised of four members of the Senate. The Senate Women’s Adequate Healthcare Study Committee will look at the current condition of women’s healthcare in Georgia, the current areas with existing deficits and the areas with no obstetrical care. The committee must report its findings on or before December 1, 2015.
