ATLANTA (June 3, 2022) | On Friday, May 27, 2022, Sen. Nikki Merritt (D – Grayson) was appointed by Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan to serve as a member on the Senate Study Committee on Transparency in High School Athletic Associations.
“As we have seen following this year’s legislative session, transparency in high school athletics has been on the forefront of concern within the General Assembly. Because much of Georgia’s funding is appropriated to education, the General Assembly has deemed it necessary to further examine transparency requirements related to high school athletics,” said Sen. Merritt. “High school students across Georgia are already facing numerous challenges therefore it is my hope that with this study committee we are able to alleviate some of these challenges with regards to athletics in public and private schools across the state. I would like to thank Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan for appointing me to this study committee as I am eager to make positive change for Georgia’s students.”
The Senate Study Committee on Transparency in High School Athletic Associations was authorized by Senate Resolution 802, which passed during the 2022 Legislative Session. The committee shall consist of five members and will be responsible for the conditions, needs, issues and problems mentioned above and have the ability to recommend any action or legislation that the committee deems appropriate.
