Sen. Kay Kirkpatrick, MD Honored by Georgia Orthopaedic Society as a Trailblazer in Orthopaedic Surgery

ATLANTA (October 1, 2018) | Sen. Kay Kirkpatrick, MD (R – Marietta) received the Dr. Jim Funk Distinguished Service Award last week at the annual meeting of the Georgia Orthopaedic Society in Sea Island.

 

“It is such an honor to be recognized by my peers as a leader in orthopaedic surgery,” said Sen. Kirkpatrick. “I am proud to be a role model and mentor for many other younger women. Orthopaedics is a great field for women and men and I am happy to have been a trailblazer for them.”

The Dr. Jim Funk Distinguished Service Award is given annually to recognize one who has contributed significantly to the practice of orthopaedic surgery. Dr. Kirkpatrick has practiced orthopaedic hand surgery in Atlanta since 1986 and served as President of Resurgens Orthopaedics for many years. She was the first female orthopaedic resident at the University of Louisville, she served as the first female President of the Georgia Orthopaedic Society from 2015-2016 and is the first woman to receive this prestigious award. The award was presented by her former practice partner, former Congressman Dr. Tom Price.
