ATLANTA (September 10, 2021) | The Georgia Academy of Family Physicians (GAFP) recently announced Sen. Kay Kirkpatrick (R – Marietta) as the recipient of their 2021 Senate Legislative Champion of the Year Award for her commitment to increasing Medicaid payment and reducing insurance administrative burdens.
“In a year like no other, with some of the greatest public health challenges affecting our state, it is an honor to be awarded the Senate Legislative Champion,” said Sen. Kirkpatrick. “Yet our successes would not be possible without the group of advocates who are fighting hard every day to ensure the medical community is heard. The COVID-19 pandemic has placed a strain on even the most well-equipped and as we head into the upcoming session, we must continue to fight for their needs.”
“As one of the very few physicians in the legislature, Dr. Kay Kirkpatrick has truly been a legislative champion for family physicians and our patients all across our state,” said Dr. Thomas Fausett, president of GAFP. “She has fought for us during the pandemic and she has fought for our patients. We are grateful for her leadership.”
GAFP was first established in 1947 as a member chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians, with a goal to “promote the health of the citizens of Georgia by advancing the specialty of Family Medicine.” Overall, the Academy contains 3,200 members, consisting of family physicians, family medicine residents and medical students.
