ATLANTA (August 18, 2023) | Yesterday, Senator Harold Jones II (D – Augusta) was awarded a $5,000 check by The Kroger Company to donate to charities of his choosing in the fight to eradicate food insecurity and food deserts across Georgia. The recipients of Sen. Jones’ donation include the Augusta Dream Center Inc. and Savannah Riverkeeper. The Kroger Company awarded the check to Sen. Jones during a tour of the new Kroger grocery store on Eisenhower Parkway, which is projected to open in the spring of 2024.
“Through Kroger’s generous donation, we are able to support two incredible organizations dedicated to eradicating food insecurity,” said Sen Jones. “I extend my gratitude to The Kroger Company for their expansion into the city of Augusta and for their efforts in combatting this very serious issue. Food insecurity and food deserts affect millions of Georgians yearly. Donating to organizations that work closely with communities in need puts us one step closer to ensuring that no Georgian ever goes hungry. I am thankful for Kroger’s partnership in this arena and look forward to working together to establish a bright future for the Central Savannah River Area.”
