GMA Honors Sen. John Albers with “Champion of Georgia’s Cities” Award

ATLANTA (September 26, 2018) | Earlier this week, Senator John Albers (R – Roswell) was honored by the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) with their “Champion of Georgia’s Cities” legislative service award.

“As a strong supporter of local control and legislation that improves Georgia’s economic outlook and brings additional jobs, it is an honor to be recognized by an organization that does a great job supporting these initiatives,” said Sen. Albers. “It is important for our elected officials, on all levels, to continue to work together to ensure we remain the number one state for business and a state our citizens are proud to call home. I believe that with the help of organizations like GMA we are able to achieve this collaboration and I look forward to working with them in the future on legislation that will benefit all Georgians.”

“We greatly appreciate Sen. Albers strong support for city government and his willingness to listen to our issues and concerns,” said GMA Executive Director Larry Hanson. “Due to his strong leadership, the citizens of all of Georgia’s cities will benefit.”

GMA honored Sen. Albers with this distinguished award for his efforts on several important issues and specifically his work on House Bill 419 which went into effect on July 1, 2018. This legislation allows local governments to regulate firework usage through their local noise ordinance with the exception of certain dates. HB 419 requires licensed firework retailers to post signage with safety tips and state laws regarding firework usage within local ordinances. In addition, the bill grants the governor authority to suspend local firework use whenever the Keetch-Byram Drought Index reaches a level of 700 or above at any point in the county.

GMA is a voluntary, non-profit organization that provides legislative advocacy, educational, employee benefit and consulting services to its 521 member cities.
