Sen. Butch Miller Commends Plant Vogtle Decision

ATLANTA (September 27, 2018) | Sen. Butch Miller (R – Gainesville) praised the recent agreement by Georgia Power, the Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia, Dalton Utilities and Oglethorpe Power Company to continue the construction of Units 3 and 4 at Plant Vogtle in Waynesboro, Georgia.

“As someone who has supported Plant Vogtle, I am pleased that the co-owners have reached an agreement to continue construction of this critical project that will produce affordable, reliable and clean energy that all Georgian’s will benefit from for decades,” said Sen. Miller. “The outcome of these negotiations between co-owners resulted in an agreement among all in order to successfully complete the project. This project is not only critical to our state’s future competitiveness, but also a huge driver in America’s nuclear and energy security. I want to thank Governor Deal, as well as the owners of Plant Vogtle for their work in coming to this agreement and ensuring that Georgia will have a steady, but secure source of energy for years to come.”

On Wednesday, September 26, 2018, Georgia Power, the Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia, Dalton Utilities and Oglethorpe Power Company announced that the construction of Units 3 and 4 would proceed. These units are the first of their kind to be built in the United States in 30 years and are the only nuclear units currently under construction in the country.
