Bill Waiving Tuition for Georgia’s Qualified Foster and Adopted Children Signed by Governor

ATLANTA (May 7, 2021) | On Tuesday, May 3, Senate Bill 107, sponsored by Sen. Brian Strickland (R – McDonough), was signed into law by Governor Brian Kemp.

“Too many of Georgia’s foster and adopted children and their families face significant financial hurdles in order to obtain higher education,” said Sen. Strickland. “This legislation is only one small part of Georgia’s effort to ensure that all of Georgia’s children, particularly those who are most vulnerable, have an opportunity to attend one of Georgia’s institutions of higher learning. I appreciate the support of Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan and Governor Kemp and for their work making foster and adoption reform a priority for the 2021 session.”

Senate Bill 107 waives all fees and tuition for qualified adopted or foster care students at institutions in the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG), which are not already covered by other student aid resources. SB 107 also requires institutions that are a part of the TCSG and University System of Georgia to offer in-state tuition for eligible homeless students.
