ATLANTA (January 18, 2023) | Last week, Sen. Greg Dolezal (R – Cumming) was appointed to serve as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Transportation and as the Vice Chairman of the Appropriations Committee.
“I am honored to have been chosen by Lt. Governor Burt Jones and my fellow members of the Senate Committee on Assignments in for the opportunity to serve as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Transportation,” said Sen. Dolezal. “Establishing the infrastructure to ensure that Georgians are able to move around the state with ease is of the utmost importance. It is up to the committee to guarantee that all issues relating to highway safety, regulation of intrastate common carriers including railroads, buses, trucks, vessels, pipelines, and civil aviation are heard and vetted thoroughly within the committee process.”
“Sen. Dolezal has been influential in securing transportation projects in his local community and I believe this experience is a good foundation for his new role as Transportation Chairman,” said Lt. Governor Burt Jones.
Sen. Dolezal was also appointed to serve as Vice-Chairman of the Appropriations Committee, the Committee charged with the state budget in the Senate.
“We saw the value of conservative budgeting when COVID interrupted the state revenue and we were able to lean on our strong reserves built up over years to bridge the gap. I am excited to begin the work for this next fiscal year as we spend Georgians hard earned tax dollars with a fiscally conservative mindset,” said Sen. Dolezal. “Governor Kemp has already committed to two billion dollars in tax refunds for this upcoming year and an additional $2,000 pay raise for teachers, which shows we can prioritize both wise spending and returning money to hard working Georgians to help offset the financial pressure from record inflation.”
“Sen. Dolezal has a reputation of bringing an analytical perspective to every issue. This approach is fundamental to developing a state budget,” said Appropriations Chairman, Sen. Tillery.
In addition to serving in these roles, Sen. Dolezal was named a member of the powerful Rules Committee, which controls the flow of bills to the Senate floor, the Regulated Industries and Utilities Committee, and the Committee on Assignments, which meets daily throughout session to assign bills to each committee. Sen. Dolezal is also a voting Ex-Officio member of the Finance, Education and Youth, and Reapportionment and Redistricting Committees.
