The Georgia Legislative Black Caucus and Chairwoman Sen. Tonya Anderson Applaud the Passage of Senate Bill 90

ATLANTA (March 10, 2021) | In response to the Georgia Senate adopting Senate Bill 90, Georgia Legislative Black Caucus Chairwoman Senator Tonya Anderson issues the following statement:

“As Chair of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus and a sponsor of Senate Bill 90, legislation to establish a Georgia Commission on African American History and Culture, I thank my colleagues in the Georgia Senate for supporting this important measure.

With all that has transpired these last two years, it is important for Georgia to invest in telling the African American story with the care and intentionality it deserves. Only by knowing who we are as a people, will we begin to do the hard work of addressing racism and oppression in Georgia.

SB 90 is an excellent first step towards convening the brightest minds in our state to discuss how best to tell the African American story, a narrative that is equally Georgian and American.

This is one stage of the legislative process. The bill now goes to the House and hopefully to the Governor’s desk for signature.”
