Statement by the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus on the Passing of United States General and Statesman Colin L. Powell

ATLANTA (October 18, 2021) | In response to the unfortunate passing of former four-star general and diplomat Colin L. Powell, the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus (GLBC) Chairwoman State Senator Tonya P. Anderson (D – Lithonia) issued the following statement:

“The Georgia Legislative Black Caucus is saddened to hear about the passing of Colin L. Powell, one of the greatest American public servants of the 20th century. We offer our prayers and condolences to his family, friends, and those who knew him best.

Today we should ponder on the incredible life of General Powell as a reminder of what service, sacrifice, and love of country looks like. The son of Jamaican immigrants who grew up in New York City, General Powell forged an outstanding career in public service. Under four United States Presidents, he was Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, National Security Advisor, and Secretary of State.

History will remember this noble warrior who understood being an American was a blessing to be cherished and that our differences made us stronger as a nation.

General Powell, we thank you.”

Established in 1975, the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus is a 501(c)3 non-profit, nonpartisan organization comprising of 68 Georgia House and Senate members.
