Statement by the Chairwoman of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus, Sen. Tonya Anderson, on U.S. State Capitol Siege

ATLANTA (January 8, 2021) | In response to the disturbing attack on the United States Capitol, the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus (GLBC) Chairwoman State Senator Tonya P. Anderson issues the following statement:

“The scene this past week of rioters and terrorists entering the United States Capitol was appalling and beyond belief. Their disrespect to our country, our leaders and the electoral process cannot go unpunished. We cannot normalize or accept mob violence as a political tactic.

The people of Georgia spoke clearly and unequivocally on November 3rd and January 5th. We must respect the rule of law as it pertains to the transfer of power. Forcing a change in the election outcome just to pacify bruised egos or entertain unfounded conspiracies is un-American and antithetical to what we stand for.

As a Caucus we strongly condemn these actions and look forward to a swift resolution.”

Established in 1975, the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus is a 501(c)3 non-profit, nonpartisan organization comprising of 65 Georgia House and Senate members.
