Senator McKoon Recognized by Daily Report as 2013 “On the Rise Attorney”

ATLANTA (August 26, 2013) – Senator Josh McKoon (R – Columbus) has recently been recognized as a 2013 “On the Rise Attorney” by the Daily Report. This award is given to up-and-coming lawyers under the age of 40.

“I am deeply honored to be recognized among my peers as an “On the Rise Attorney” in Georgia,” said Sen. McKoon. “As a state civil litigation attorney and public official, I have always considered it my duty to uphold the highest degree of ethics while working to steward public trust.”

Since 2002, the Daily Report has nominated Georgia’s top young lawyers in its annual “On the Rise” issue. Nominated by Georgia’s legal community, each class is handpicked by staffers at the Daily Report based on their contributions and promising careers as attorneys. This year’s candidates represent both sides of the political spectrum and serve among a variety of legal practice areas.

Sen. McKoon, a Republican Senator from Columbus, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Furman University in 2001 and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Alabama School of Law in 2003. Senator McKoon currently works as an attorney for Crowley & McKoon.

In the Senate, Sen. McKoon serves as chairman of the Judiciary Committee, vice-chairman of the Higher Education Committee, and secretary of the Regulated Industries and Utilities Committee. He is also a member of the Ethics and Insurance and Labor Committees and is an ex-officio of the Judiciary Non-Civil Committee.

As a sophomore lawmaker, Sen. McKoon was one of the leading voices for ethics reform in the state. Under his leadership, the Georgia General Assembly boldly passed a sweeping ethics reform package – limiting lobbyist gifts and changing the process for reporting campaign contributions under Georgia law.

The “On the Rise” class of 2013 will be recognized at the Four Seasons Hotel in Atlanta on September 19 by Daily Report affiliate, ALM – a leading provider of specialized business news and information.
