Senator Kim Jackson Joins Faith Leaders to Denounce the Death Penalty

ATLANTA (October 10, 2023) | Today, Senator Kim Jackson (D – Stone Mountain) stood with clergy on the Washington Street steps of the Georgia State Capitol to observe the annual World Day Against the Death Penalty.

“I stood here over a decade ago while thousands gathered for a vigil, hoping and praying that the state of Georgia would reconsider Troy Anthony Davis’ death penalty,” said Sen. Jackson. “I saw people identify the injustice in our state and voice their opinions and frustration. Since then, those same people have continued to identify the injustice in our state by speaking against capital punishment in Georgia. I am proud to stand with leaders of multiple faiths as we all stand together to call for an end to the death penalty in our state. I want to thank the clergy leaders, community members and friends who joined us today.”

The World Coalition Against the Death Penalty first organized the World Day Against the Death Penalty in 2003. Georgians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty (GFADP) hosted today’s event.
