ATLANTA (August 23, 2021) | Sen. Chuck Payne (R – Dalton) was recently appointed to serve on the Agricultural Education Advisory Commission by the Senate Committee on Assignments.
“Agribusiness, as our state’s largest industry, is dependent upon a qualified and educated workforce,” said Sen. Payne. “It’s important that we continue to grow the role of agricultural education in our schools so that students understand the variety of career opportunities available in the field and to prepare them with the skills necessary to succeed in the industry. I look forward to working with my fellow commission members to analyze the current landscape of agricultural education in our state and determine what improvements may be necessary to further student engagement.”
The Agricultural Education Advisory Commission is composed of three members of the House of Representatives appointed by the Speaker of the House, three members of the Senate appointed by the Senate Committee on Assignments, three members who are not members of the General Assembly to be appointed by the Governor and three members who are not members of the General Assembly to be appointed by the State School Superintendent.
The Agricultural Education Advisory Commission is tasked with periodically reviewing the conditions, needs, issues and problems related to the agricultural education program of the Georgia Department of Education and issues annual reports to the General Assembly to recommend any action or legislation that the Commission deems appropriate.
