ATLANTA (June 10, 2013) – Senator Brandon Beach (R-Alpharetta) has been selected to Chair the Senate Public Transportation in the Metropolitan Atlanta Region Study Committee. Over the next several months, this study committee will study the current workings of public transportation in the metropolitan Atlanta region and report its findings on or before December 31, 2013.
“Gwinnett, Cobb, Fulton and DeKalb each currently have the adequate assets to provide transportation for the public,” said Sen. Beach. “It is important to meet this summer to examine possible solutions to the logistics dilemma of our current bus and rail routes in order to better serve metro Atlantans. This committee will also discuss how independent systems can coordinate and communicate with each other as to provide citizens with the most timely, safe, reliable and efficient ride possible.”
“I’m happy to appoint Senator Beach to the Study Committee on Public Transportation in the Metropolitan Atlanta Region and look forward to thoroughly evaluating their findings,” Lt. Governor Casey Cagle said. “Senator Beach has been a leader on this issue and I’m thankful he’s lending his time and expertise to the important work this committee will perform.”
The Senate Public Transportation in Metro Atlanta Region Study Committee was created by the passage of Senate Resolution 618 during the 2013 legislative session. As stated in the resolution, the committee will also include four other members of the Senate as appointed by the Lieutenant Governor. This study committee will specifically discuss workable solutions to streamline transit systems in the metro Atlanta area.
