ATLANTA (January 16, 2025) – This week, Senator Bill Cowsert (R–Athens) was reappointed by Lt. Governor Burt Jones and the Senate Committee on Assignments as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Regulated Industries and Utilities. Sen. Cowsert was first appointed chair of the committee in 2019 and has chaired the committee in the six legislative sessions since then.
“I am pleased to have been re-appointed Chair of the Senate Committee on Regulated Industries and Utilities by the Committee on Assignments, chaired by Lt. Governor Burt Jones,” said Sen. Cowsert. “This committee historically deals with a large quantity of meaningful legislation, and I am sure that our work this session will positively impact Georgians for generations to come.”
Lt. Governor Burt Jones spoke on the positive impact Chairman Cowsert has had as Chair of the Committee up to this point: “Chairman Cowsert is a strong Chairman who has been in the Senate for over a decade,” said Lt. Governor Burt Jones. “He is an expert on issues that will be addressed in the Senate Regulated Industries Committee, and I am confident that, along with the other members, the work of this committee will be efficient and effective.”
The Committee on Regulated Industries and Utilities oversees legislation relating to professional licensing and regulation of utilities, such as gas, electricity, broadband and telecommunications. The committee also regulates product industries such as alcoholic beverages, hemp/medical marijuana and various forms of gaming. Sen. Cowsert was also assigned to serve as Vice Chair on the Senate Committee on Judiciary and Secretary on the Senate Committees on Rules and Redistricting, respectively. Sen. Cowsert also serves as a member on the Senate Committees on Finance, Insurance and Health and Human Services.
