Senator Ben Watson Honors Ireland Minister Darragh O’Brien

ATLANTA (March 16, 2023) | Yesterday, Ben Watson (R – Savannah), President Pro Tempore Senator John F. Kennedy (R – Macon) and Senator Mike Dugan (R – Carrollton) welcomed Irish Minister Darragh O’Brien to the Senate Chamber to award him with Senate Resolution 260, a resolution that recognizes and commends Minister Darragh O’Brien for his outstanding service to the people of Ireland.

“It was my great honor to welcome Minister O’Brien to the Georgia Senate,” said Sen. Watson. “Minister O’Brien has dedicated numerous hours towards helping the people of Ireland. His commitment to the people of Fingal County and the City of Dublin is a strong example of leadership, diplomacy and dedication to public service. Minister O’Brien has always believed that the government should fight for the middle class by relieving the financial burden on working families and supporting those seeking work as effectively as possible. We look forward to working with Minister O’Brien in the future and to further strengthen the relationship between Ireland and Georgia.”

“Mr. O’Brien has passed successful legislation that has created safe and affordable housing for the people of Ireland,” said President Pro Tempore John F. Kennedy. “Georgia and Ireland have shared investments in one another and we look forward to working with Ireland now and in the future to further increase our relationships and expand our economies.”

“I am happy to welcome Minister Darragh O’Brien to our great state as we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day,” said Sen. Mike Dugan. “We are quickly approaching the 25th anniversary of the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement and it is great hosting Minister O’Brien and his delegation here at the state capitol.”

Since 2020 Minister O’Brien has served as Teachta Dála for the constituency of Dublin-Fingal. Prior to his current position, the Minister has held several positions within Ireland’s National Parliament, also called the Oireachtas, including vice-chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee; member of the Oireachtas Committee on Justice,  Equality, Defense and Law Reform; leader of Fianna Fáil in the Seanad; and opposition frontbench spokesperson on Dublin, Foreign Affairs and Housing.
