ATLANTA (November 1, 2013) – Senator John Albers (R –Roswell) is sponsoring a Senate Page Essay and Video Contest as part of his ongoing commitment to providing Georgia students with public service and leadership training.
“The winners of the contest will be given the opportunity to engage with our state’s top elected officials and gain first-hand experience into how government works under the Gold Dome,” said Senator Albers. “I look forward to reviewing the students’ submissions and hearing their ideas about how we can work together to create a better future for all Georgians.”
To enter the contest, students must submit a 1 -2 page essay or 2 -3 minute video about public service, leadership and government. Students from the following high schools may submit an essay or video for review: North Springs, Roswell, Centennial, Milton, Alpharetta, Johns Creek, River Ridge, Fulton Science Academy, Blessed Trinity and Fellowship Christian School.
One winner will be selected from each of the 10 schools within the 56th Senate District for an opportunity to serve as a Senate Page for State Senator John Albers. All students selected to serve as Senate Pages will receive an excused absence from school.
Senate Pages are responsible for delivering important information and messages to State Senators while in the Senate Chamber and gain an in-depth look into the legislative process. Winners of the contest will receive a photo with Senator Albers and Lt. Governor Casey Cagle.
One student will also be chosen to serve as “Student Senator of the Day.” This winner will spend the day shadowing Senator Albers in committee meetings and assist him during official Senate proceedings. The “Student Senator of the Day” will also be provided lunch and have their photo taken with Senator Albers, Lt. Governor Casey Cagle and Governor Nathan Deal.
Applicants must include their full name, grade, school, phone number and email address for consideration. The deadline for submission is December 1. All winners will be notified prior to December 18, 2013.
