ATLANTA (November 4, 2013) – Sen. Gloria Butler (D-Stone Mountain) has been recently re-appointed to serve on the Georgia Child Fatality Review Panel by Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle. Senator Butler has served on the Child Fatality Review Panel since 2005.
“It is an honor to be re-appointed to serve as part of the Georgia Child Fatality Review Panel,” said Senator Butler. “Conducting a thorough review and analysis of child fatality rates is our first line of defense in preventing unnecessary childhood fatalities.”
The Georgia Child Fatality Review Panel provides child fatality data, training, technical assistance, investigative support services and resources to secure the well-being of children throughout the state.
The panel publishes a yearly report that outlines the circumstances surrounding the deaths of children under the age of 18. The Governor’s Office of the Child Advocate along with the Georgia Child Fatality Review Panel will then use this information to identify key strategies in reducing childhood fatality rates. This data also helps in determining whether individual cases should be reviewed on the local level by Child Fatality Review Committees.
Senator Butler’s appointment begins immediately and remains in effect until January 1, 2015.
