Senate Majority Leader Ronnie Chance Named Georgia Chamber’s “Legislator of the Year”

ATLANTA (June 7, 2013) – The Georgia Chamber of Commerce has named Senate Majority Leader Ronnie Chance (R-Tyrone) as the recipient of the organization’s annual “Legislator of the Year” award. Senator Chance has been a longtime ally of Georgia’s business community and has earned an A+ rating on the last three Georgia Chamber legislative scorecards.

“It is an incredible honor to receive this award from Georgia’s top advocate for business,” said Senator Chance. “Georgia needs to be more competitive than ever before in order to remain an attractive location for business start-ups, relocations and expansions. I want to thank the Georgia Chamber for its tireless efforts to protect the interests of business in our state and for their work to enhance Georgia’s business climate.

“As a business community, we cannot expect to grow and compete with other states and global markets without elected officials who are actively working to pass pro-business legislation,” said Steve Green, the Georgia Chamber’s 2013 Board Chair.  “Georgia is fortunate to have a leader in Senator Chance who is committed to business growth and demonstrated that support through his votes in the Senate.  He truly went above and beyond to strengthen Georgia’s competitiveness and we applaud him for his efforts.”

Senator Chance has supported pro-business issues since his 2005 election to the Georgia State Senate and has navigated several important bills to final passage, including many that received bipartisan support. During the 2013 legislative session, Senator Chance was a co-sponsor of Senate Bill 224, which establishes the Invest Georgia fund to provide Georgia-based technology firms and companies with access to seed capital.

Workforce and economic development, health care and education were all considered areas of impact by the Georgia Chamber’s Government Affairs Council and set the criteria for the “Legislator of the Year” award and the 2013 legislative scorecard.
