Sen. Tonya Anderson Appointed to Senate Educating Adult Students Study Committee

ATLANTA (August 18, 2020) | Last week, Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan appointed Sen. Tonya Anderson (D – Lithonia) to serve on the Senate Educating Adult Students Study Committee.

“Adult education gives adults the opportunity to learn new skills and gain the qualifications needed to become more employable,” said Sen. Anderson. “Most jobs today expect applicants to hold a high school diploma, at minimum; however, thousands of Georgians lack a high school diploma or GED. This is why adult education programs are crucial in narrowing the education gap in Georgia and helping adults achieve economic and social stability. This study committee will give us the opportunity to analyze the ways we can expand adult education opportunities, as well as to evaluate the programs needed for adults to attain a high school diploma or GED. I look forward to working with my fellow committee members on ways we can create a better adult education system in Georgia.”

The Senate Study Committee on Educating Adult Students was established through the passage of Senate Resolution 1035 during the 2020 Legislative Session. To view the full text of SR 1035, please follow this link: http://www.legis.ga.gov/Legislation/en-US/display/20192020/SR/1035
