Sen. Tolleson Attends Ceremony for First Public CNG Pump in DeKalb County

ATLANTA (February 3, 2012) – Today, Sen. Ross Tolleson (R- Perry) attended a ribbon cutting ceremony in DeKalb County to celebrate the opening of the county’s first CNG pump open to the public. Other attendees included Livia Whisenhunt, CEO of the PS Energy Company and representatives from the Clean Energy Group.

“I am honored to be part of this historic ribbon cutting and I hope to see additional stations continue to be a priority for our state. Georgia has the ability to be the leader of CNG fueling station expansion in the Southeast making us more competitive for industry and jobs.” said Sen. Tolleson. “We must remain dedicated to expanding the use of natural gas in order to greatly reduce our air emissions, helping us meet future, more-stringent federal air quality standards that could be detrimental to our businesses and military installations. With each station we open, we are one step closer to reducing our foreign oil consumption, enhancing our nation’s energy security, and cutting fuel costs for all Georgians.”

Tolleson, Chairman of the Committee on Natural Resources and the Environment, is a vocal advocate for the use of alternative fuels and the protecting of valuable natural resources. Tolleson worked closely with Representative Don Parsons, who serves as chairman of the Energy, Utilities, and Telecommunications Committee, to develop a piece of legislation that will provide income tax credits to the drivers of certain trucks and taxis that are fueled by natural gas and for refueling stations for natural gas vehicles. The tax credit, HB 890, was dropped in the house yesterday.
