ATLANTA (May 20, 2019) | Last week, Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan appointed Senator Steve Gooch (R – Dahlonega) to serve on the Georgia Commission on Freight and Logistics.
“I am honored to serve on this commission with numerous leaders from the around the state and experts within freight and logistics,” said Sen. Gooch. “By reviewing our current system of transporting not only goods, but moving citizens across the state, we can get a comprehensive picture of what’s working and what could use improvements. Freight and logistics are instrumental to our state’s economic development initiatives and I believe by working together, we can address shortfalls to keep our state moving forward.”
The 22-member Georgia Commission on Freight and Logistics was created during the 2019 session with the passage of House Resolution 37. Members will review Georgia’s freight and logistics infrastructure to ensure citizens and goods are mobilized efficiently. Additionally, members will analyze the possibility of developing alternative freight routes and what additional changes can be made to ensure the state’s freight and logistic industry positively impacts economic development. This legislation was signed by Governor Brian P. Kemp on May 7, 2019, and went into effect on that date.
