Sen. Sheikh Rahman Awarded Rising Environmental Leader by the National Caucus of Environmental Legislators

ATLANTA (August 3, 2021) | On July 29, 2021, the National Caucus of Environmental Legislators (NCEL) presented Sen. Sheikh Rahman (D – Lawrenceville) with the annual Rising Environmental Leader Award. Given at their eighth annual National Forum, Sen. Rahman was selected by the Board of Directors for leadership in increasing outdoor recreation opportunities.

“It is an honor to be recognized by NCEL – a group that in its own right, has made tremendous strides in trying to promote environmentally friendly legislation,” said Sen. Rahman. “Over my time here, I have had the opportunity to learn and collaborate with a group of insightful, creative and passionate individuals, who all recognize the importance of our world’s natural resources. In every direction you look, there is an abundance of outdoor spaces and we must do our job in working to protect and strengthen these critical parts of our state. There will always be more work to do and I look forward to continuing my efforts with NCEL on these priority issues, in addition to leading discussions right here in Georgia through the Outdoor Learning Study Committee.”

“As an emerging leader within the NCEL network, Senator Rahman has embodied the mission of NCEL,” said NCEL Executive Director Jeff Mauk. “His active leadership in NCEL’s Outdoor Working Group and undeterred resolve to make his state’s outdoor spaces more accessible and equitable have inspired many NCEL members to take up similar legislation in their home states.”

NCEL is a 501(c)(3) that provides 1,000 state legislators from all states and parties with a platform to collaborate on environmental issues and share ideas. The Rising Environmental Leader Award is presented annually to legislators who demonstrate “strong leadership on environmental issues early in their legislative careers,” with additional metrics measured through bipartisan support and policy impact.
