Sen. Sally Harrell Sworn into Office

ATLANTA (January 18, 2019) | On Monday, January 14th, Sen. Sally Harrell (D – Greater Atlanta Area) was sworn into office by Judge Charles Bethel of the Georgia Supreme Court. Sen. Harrell was elected in 2018 to represent Georgia’s 40th Senate District which includes portions DeKalb, Fulton, and Gwinnett Counties. This marks the beginning of her two-year term in the Georgia Senate, and the official beginning of the 2019 Georgia General Assembly.

“I am deeply moved to have been sworn in to the Georgia Senate, an institution whose members have influenced and shaped our great state,” said Sen. Harrell. “I am grateful to the voters and volunteers who elected me, and look forward to serving all the constituents of Senate District 40 and working with my colleagues to advance important issues for all Georgians.”

Sen. Harrell was joined at her swearing in by her husband, Jay Harrell. Sen. Harrell served in the Georgia House of Representatives from 1999-2005 where she championed a wide range of women’s and children’s issues, advocating for mental health and disability services and mandatory recess for children.
